FOUNDATION FOR SOCIETY has become a member of Civic Alliance – Latvia

We are delighted to announce that the establishment FOUNDATION FOR SOCIETY has become a full member of the association Civic Alliance - Latvia (CAL). At the session of the Council of the association Civic Alliance - Latvia (CAL) No.2012-1, which took place on 12 January 2012, there was a decision reached on the admission of the establishment FOUNDATION FOR SOCIETY to the association CAL.

The association Civic Alliance - Latvia was founded on 14 December 2004 and registered on 17 January 2005. CAL is an independent non-profit non-governmental (NGO) organization the aim of which is to sustain civil society in Latvia supporting common interests of Latvian nongovernmental organizations and developing an enabling environment for the activity of associations and foundations.

CAL operates as an NGO platform - an officially registered network of organizations representing different fields.

CAL has been actively operating as a defender of NGO sector interests following the adoption of laws by the state administration as well as inviting Latvian NGOs to cooperate and stand up for their rights. The representatives of CAL participate in working groups of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministries, weekly meetings of the state secretaries, and in the commission sessions of the Saeima. The aim of the participation in the councils and meetings is to provide the involvement of NGO as a related party in the development and amendment of political documents and legislation.

Currently, the association Civic Alliance - Latvia unites 132 Latvian associations, foundations and private members. The members of CAL represent local community, the city, the region, and nation in different spheres of activity.
